Laundry Time...

Remember my super awesome dog?? Well.. you should if you don't.

Max.. THE super awesome dog!

Let's just say he has a few problems.  His biggest one right now is his hair.  He sheds.  All. The. Time.  Don't believe me?  I have photos of his hair loss.

Now just remember this is wet hair.  This was a weekly task and I just gave up on it.  Now its just dry brushing.  Twice a week if I can.

Mostly wet hair.. YUCK!
With all this nasty hair I have sheets on both ends of the couch and one on my bed.  These get washed twice a week.  The blankets on the couch get washed once a week.  Bed sheets once a week.  Bed blankets about every 2 weeks only because I have a king sized comforter with a duvet cover and its a pain in the ass to wash and thats what the extra sheet on my bed is for.  I also wash the kitchen and bathroom rugs now every 1-2 weeks.  Thats a lot of laundry.  Thats a lot of laundry detergent and fabric softener.  So.. I saw these recipes on www.thefrugalgirls.com for homemade cleaners and I finally decided to try it.

Total investment for ingredients.. I tossed the receipt but I think it was $11.00
These are the ingredients.  There is only 1/2 cup of washing soda and borax per batch.  I will probably never have to buy that stuff EVER again.  Ok at least not for a few years.  The fels-naptha calls for 1/3 bar so I got a couple more loads on that one.  The vinegar and conditioner are for the fabric softener.  Plus LOADS of water for both.  OK, mostly the detergent.

I put this to the test.  Remember the stolen plumbing picture? Well.. Lets just say I can add snaking a drain to my list of tasks.  With that comes very dirty towels, along with normal rag/cleaning/dog washing towels, dog sheets, etc.

All the clothes smelt clean, looked clean, and no static when coming out of the dryer.  I am hooked.  It is so cheap and very simple to make.  I haven't used this stuff on my regular clothes yet but I probably will end up doing so.

If my clothes start smelling please tell me to buy detergent and stop using my own.
